There is a point in time when action is required.
I’m a planner by nature and I am very proud of the time I spend getting organized. But, there is something very important to tossing aside the the strategies, the plans, the revisions, and at the true root of it the fear of failure and just getting what ever it is done!
Organization is a manifestation of the act of making a decision.
We all organize things mentally such as:
What we are going to say when we get angry with someone so that we don’t burn our bridges.
We all organize things physically such as:
Adding up the items in our grocery cart to decide- “I am going to spend no more than $50 at the grocery store today.”
We organize things constantly without even noticing.
Organizing is in fact – An AWESOME Trait!
BUT, how often do we allow “getting organized” to stall our progress?
Most of us don’t typically like to admit that we get scared. We are shown over and over again in society that we need to be WHOLE and COMPLETE in order to get out the door! God Forbid a woman go out the door with no make up on! You better not be working on that project when the boss walks in on you while you are editing. We feel insecure about things unless we consider them COMPLETELY FINISHED!
And… Even better, we plan another 10 minute explanation defending everything we’ve done just incase someone wants to give us their opinion!
So we put on this show to let the world think we’ve “Got it all Together.” It’s a facade. It’s bravado. It’s just weakness covered in war paint!
There is something in our society that tells us that “Bravado” is somehow indicative of strength. I disagree.
I believe that having faith in ourselves that we are going to put the pieces together as we go along IS STRENGTH! I remember editing papers when I use to teach high school. Students come in all shapes and sizes and ranged in all different levels of intelligence and determination. I always use to really admire the students who came in BEFORE their papers were due and asked me to take a look at their progress. Insecure or not. The students with this kind of courage, had the where-with-all to get organized and begin execution of their assignment; but, they also knew it wasn’t complete. They also knew that they were not guaranteed assistance. But, they gave it a shot…. And 9 times out of 10 they got it!
I think “Getting Started” is one of the most challenging parts of any project. Finding our topic, our outline, our vision, our methodology, and our ideas can be a speed-bump if we don’t power through and act. Insecurity can leak in and cause paralysis by indecision.
Think about all the projects you have ever wanted to do in your life. How many of them were stalled because there was “ACTION” needed? Probably most of the ideas (great ones or awful) that didn’t come to fruition died on the vine because someone just didn’t do it!
Think about what you want. Narrow your focus. Decide what is important. Determine what will not work…
And… DO IT!
Don’t get paralyzed because you aren’t finished and someone might find a flaw in your design. I don’t want to burst your bubble or anything… But, people are going to find flaws whether you think you are complete or not. Don’t allow the potential opinions of critics decide your fate. Follow your heart. Get out the door. Get it started… And then make it better as you go along…
Own your project and make it work with or without support!
You got This!
Love, Success, & Positive Energy
